Four Ways To Work With Your Chiropractic Adjustments

Posted on

Chiropractic adjustments can make you feel better, but if you want the good feeling and benefits to last longer, you need to work with the process and not against it. Here are four primary ways to do that.

1. Be careful after the appointment.

You should take your time to rise from the adjusting table and avoid any jerking movements. For a few hours afterward you will want to avoid:

  • Bending at the waist. Bend at the knees instead and keep your back straight. Use your leg muscles to lift.
  • Doing strenuous exercise.
  • Poking the adjustment points.

2. Wear well-made shoes that give support and fit properly.

Ill fitting, badly designed shoes can affect alignment of your body while you are standing and moving about. High heels and flip flops are some of the worst choices and running or walking shoes are much better choices.

Invest in some shoes that will support your feet properly and enable you to walk comfortably all day. If you are dealing with significant back or foot problems, you will need to visit a podiatrist to get specially designed orthotic shoes prescribed for your feet.

3. Exercise in a way that builds muscle and burns calories but doesn't cause more damage.

Aerobic exercise such as brisk walking will promote better digestion, tone up muscles, and improve circulation. Exercises that strengthen back and leg muscles may be demonstrated and recommended by your chiropractor, so be resolved to get in a daily routine of doing them.

Yoga and chiropractic care seem to be made for one another. Both make you more aware of your body and both tune up the skeletal, muscular and nervous systems so they reinforce each other.  Healing comes from re-linking the mind and the body together through treatment and exercise.

4. Get quality sleep.

You will need to get plenty of rest and as the adjustments begin to take effect, this should become easier. You need a firm but not overly hard mattress for proper support of your spine. A feather pillow will support your head and neck better than a foam pillow. Avoid sleeping on your stomach because this can put pressure on muscles and joints which will result in neck strain and pain.

So to summarize, be sure to take it easy after an adjustment, wear comfortable shoes, exercise, and get enough rest. Other things you should do are: drink plenty of water, eat plenty of fruits and vegetables, sit in a ergonomic chair when working at a desk, listen to your body, and keep up with your treatments.
